2012 marks the 5th annual running of the Bedford 5k to Beat Lung Cancer

Founded in 2008 by Jean St-Amand after his father Gerry was diagnosed in the fall of 2006 with lung cancer

Spearheaded by Jean, the event is a family passion project. Jean is a Bedford entrepreneur in marketing and he is assisted in this event by his younger brother Paul, an award-winning filmmaker, his mother Penny, a teacher and a long-time volunteer in Bedford. Jean’s wife and two daughters, as well as his in-laws help out before, during and after the event. The event has also received regular support from the Catholic Women’s League and the Knights of Columbus of St. Ignatius Parish.

In its first four years, the event has raised more than $25,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society

The event has grown from 180 registrants in 2008 to more than 300 in 2011.
